Does anyone have a definitive list of GAA clubs in London? I am moving there for a couple of months for work and would like to play there.

The BBC have included Gaelic Sports on their sports academy page which is great news, it would probably be better as two seperate sports i.e. football and hurling but it is a sign of progress. Here is the link:

Given that Guernsey are in the ECB EuroLeague, I think Jersey should be as well for a number of reasons.
1. Guernsey is a hard round to get to for many teams and could do with local support. 2. Similiarly both teams could benifit from more locla competition 3. Jersey have been playing in Britain, it would be interesting to see what a team like this would be capable of in Europe. |

I get the impression having spoken to some of the Jersey boys and having heard about some of the "inter-island" matches, that Jersey would give us a right hammering for our troubles - considering that Guernsey have a good team by our standards as it is!
But yeah, it would make more sense financially for Jersey to join the EuroLeague, and if you had Paris/Brest/Rennes/Guernsey/Jersey as a regional league, it's not too shabby at all.... the french would lay claim to the islands if they could anyway!!! |

OffalyRover you sound like a head who knows your European game. I agree that Jersey would be a very strong club in Europe but it would be good for the EuroLeague, to have another strong team, as certainly good for the Northern Region. So who do you play with?

Have a look at the Senior Hurling and Football results by Jersey in UK over the past few years. Would appear to be in a different level of development to Europe. Perhaps a few Europe V Jersey matches might be an idea. Europe should set its sights on being able to compete with London Juniors, who compete in the All-Ireland intercounty junior series each year. First Europe could focus on a few matches a yr 'gainst UK senior, intermediate of junior winners. Then in 3 yrs time, take on London Junior inter-county team. If Europe could match them, then Europe would have a good case to Croke Park, to suggest a London V Europe match and the winner getting the inter-county championship place. It would greatly enhance the Europe profile across Ireland, and help sponsorship also - in the long run. |

Yes, truly great victory for London over a county (Carlow) which has 2 of the strongest and most successful Senior club-sides in Leinster, in recent years.

Their club AGM is coming up soon. I believe they are a bit fed up with the London scene. Costs them a fortune to compete in, they train very hard for 4 months but are just not strong enough for senior football in London. Also, starting to lose a few players who are heading home.
Some of them have previously mentioned coming in with Europe. I think they would like to play a little bit of less serious football for a while & enjoy it a bit more. They wouldn't be as strong as people would think as they wouldn't always be able to send their best team away. They would definitely help raise the standard of European football. However, some of their club might look upon it as a backward step! I will be in touch with them over the next week |

Sounds like a great move for Guernsey too, given the difficulty of the location and getting teams up there for competition. And a new strong team in Europe to give the likes of Paris a run!!
Hope it materialises. |

The season in London begins this weekend. Plenty of football in London to be played. I am playing with Robert Emmetts and they are in the Anglo Irish Banks League Division 2, I think that most of the top tier European teams could easily take them.
Have any London teams visited European teams yet? The Eurotunnel and the ferries would make it easy for teams to play in Europe and so would the old cheap airlines. |
